Prokofiev’s classic “Peter and the Wolf” brings to life the tale of a young boy on an adventurous exploration, narrated to enhance the experience. As he meets several new animal friends, the arrival of a ferocious wolf turns the adventure into a thrilling quest. Villagers band together to hunt the wolf and protect the town, leading to an unexpected twist. Additionally, the GSO will perform Holst’s lively “St. Paul’s Suite,” a delightful piece originally composed for the students at the school where Holst taught.
This event is designed especially for persons with sensory sensitivities and their families, and gives audience members the ability to fully experience orchestral music without any of the constraints of a standard performance.
During this 45 minute program, audience members are free to move about, dance, speak, sing, or vocalize. Sensory sensitive listeners and family members will delight in the discovery of an orchestral experience that invites and welcomes all to the world of classical music.
Please note: Due to the nature of the music selections, this program may be slightly louder than previous sensory concerts. It's advisable to bring headphones or ear covers for those with higher sensitivity to sound. For the safety of all guests, running and skipping are not allowed inside the auditorium.

In the GSO season finale, we delve into various perspectives on American life. The beloved ballet music from Copland’s “Appalachian Spring” beautifully captures a wedding ceremony between a husband and a pioneer woman in rural Pennsylvania, evoking the simplicity and serenity of their life.
In stark contrast, the world premiere of “Requiem Americano” uses the music of America to address pressing societal issues such as anti-immigration sentiment, hypercommercialism, gun violence, social isolation, and disproportionate incarceration.
Enhancing this powerful performance, the GSO will be joined by tenor Timothy Miller, the Atlanta Boy Choir, and the GSO Chorus.
